Hello
As a clinical psychologist interested in relational psychotherapy I'm more of a conversationalist than an interventionist. I believe that people have come to be as they are for very good reasons; but I also believe that change is always possible. The people who come to see me often discover that they make sense as they are, but there are ways of diversifying their repertoire for being in the world which open up new possibilities for them in their lives. What if we could include more of ourselves and become more whole?
My Story
I trained in Clinical Psychology at The University of Western Australia in 2004-2005 and have been working in the health field for over two decades both in Australia and in the UK. During that time I have also completed training in Mindfulness teaching (with Mindfulness Scotland in 2019) and the Feldenkrais Method (2021-2025) which is about awareness through movement. I am interested in the embodied mind and how we inhabit our being.
It took me a while to understand the power and value of the talking process in and of itself. Psychology often offers ideas and concepts which can be incredibly powerful but they are always delivered within a relational human exchange and sometimes it is that exchange which carries more weight than anything else. I have sat with people facing inordinate suffering and facing existential reckonings because life has asked so much of them in difficult ways. Words of advice feel so misplaced when one is meeting with a human in existential pain. I'm a believer in the accompanying presence, someone to see, hear, witness and bear with the suffering. I'm also a believe in the comfort this offers and the comfort that can be brought in the face of difficulty. Compassionate and mindful awareness offer a base from which to meet life in all of its dimensions, harrowing and joyful.
What intrigues me is the simultaneous existence of joy and sorrow, of excitement and fear, of vitality and mortality. Come and find out for yourself what talking can do.
P.S. I believe in being a real person talking to a real person, so I'm actively choosing not to use artificial intelligence in my practice. Real intelligence is good enough for me.
